The focus of this article will be on what aspect of your personality the different chakras relate to and two easy techniques to clear and balance them. Its important that the energy centers are clear and aligned, since that allows the energy to flow freely up and down the spine and throughout the nervous system. The result is often a feeling of peace and a sense of well-being because the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies are directly related to the chakra system. Tension, negative emotions and other unbalanced energies can be released from the chakras, which can help the person as a whole, since there is a connection between all the bodies. Because the chakras are all connected, when one area is worked with the entire chakra system is affected.

Qualities of the Chakras

First Chakra-Red: Some of its qualities are motivation, passion, strength and grounding. Red helps to give us vitality, courage, inner strength and self-confidence, and encourages us to achieve our goals. It gives us the power and strength to pursue our dreams.

Second Chakra-Orange: It is connected to our emotional and feeling self, and some of its qualities are joy, happiness and being sociable.

Third Chakra-Yellow: This is our ego center and some of its qualities are optimism, intelligence and being mentally creative. The heart is greatly affected by this chakra.

Fourth Chakra-Green: The Solar Plexus Chakra is an energy clearing house center. It is believed that a large portion of energy from the lower chakras pass through this front chakra before reaching the higher chakras and vice versa. The whole body can be strengthened by energizing this chakra. This chakra is connected to our loving self. Some of its qualities are harmony, kindness, sensitivity, emotional balancing, unconditional love, understanding and growth.

Fifth Chakra-Blue: The Throat Chakra is connected to our expressive self. Some of its qualities are honesty, politeness, creative self-expression and will. It also helps with detailed planning and organizing.

Sixth Chakra-Indigo: This chakra is also called the master chakra because it directs and controls the other chakras and their corresponding endocrine glands. It is also called the third eye, since it’s connected to our universal seeing self. Some of the qualities are wisdom, truth seeking and intuition.

Seventh Chakra-Violet: This chakra is connected to our knowing and spiritual self. Some of the qualities are inspiration, charisma, ability to see the beauty in life, and it helps to purify thoughts and feelings. It increases our artistic and creative abilities as well.

There are many techniques for clearing, balancing and energizing the chakras, but I’ll give you a couple of simple ones that anyone can do.

First Technique: Shake your hands to clear old energy, then, rub your hands briskly together. This activates the minor chakras in your hands and gets the energy moving. They may feel warm. Next, put both hands over the chakra you want to work with. Imagine Universal healing energy coming into your hands as you give the intent to clear, balance and energize the chakra you have your hands on. You may feel heat going into that area as this happens. Continue for a couple of minutes or until you feel it is done. Shake off the energy when you’re through. Repeat the procedure for the next chakra.

Second Technique: This one might be easier if you lie down. Shake your hands to clear the energy, then, rub them briskly together. Next, open both hands, palms down, with one on top of the other. Place both hands over the chakra you are working with and begin circling counterclockwise about 3 to 4 inches above the chakra. Make slow counterclockwise circles over the chakra for approximately one to two minutes or until you feel it is complete.

Next shake your hands to clear the energy and circle clockwise for half as long as the counterclockwise direction. The clockwise direction soothes and stabilizes the cleared chakra. Repeat the same process for each chakra that you are clearing. For a man, clear the crown chakra clockwise to clear and then counterclockwise to sooth. All the other chakras are the same as described above.

You can use these techniques daily or whenever you feel the need. Begin with an area where you are feeling discomfort. Each chakra has its own personality traits as described above. Look at the specific areas that are causing you discomfort, such as the heart chakra. This process may bring up toxic or blocked energies which will then be able to move out of your body. Since we express ourselves through these energy centers, once cleared of tension and negative emotions, we can move into a more balanced state of well-being. Remember that the chakras are all connected, so clearing one will impact the others as well. Clearing the chakras will boost your entire energy system.

Distance healing is a simple but effective way to work with someone, even if they are in another state or country. This type of energy work is also known as remote, absent, or long distance healing. You don’t have to know the person or even talk with them. Someone may just ask you to pray for a person in distress. This type of healing modality has been practiced in the Far East for centuries. Nowadays, there are numerous energy techniques being utilized for distance healing in the West. There have been many scientific studies done that have validated the positive effect of long distance healing, including prayer.

A study conducted by cardiologist Randolph Byrd in 1988 was designed to determine the effects of prayer on patients in the Coronary Care Unit at San Francisco General Hospital over a 10-month period. This was a rigidly designed and randomized, double blind experiment. A computer randomly assigned which of the 383 newly admitted patients involved in the study would be prayed-for, and which would not. The statistically significant finding of this study was that prayed- for patients were five times less likely to require antibiotics, and three times less likely to develop pulmonary edema. None of the prayed-for patients required endotracheal intubation (where a tube is placed in the patient’s throat), whereas 12 of the non-prayed for patients required this procedure.

There are many other scientific studies that show prayer can positively affect the health of a sick person even if the person praying does not personally know the person for whom they are praying. When a practitioner of energy work transmits energy to a distant client, it works on a similar principle. However, healing arts practitioners are directing more specific frequencies and energies to the person being worked on. Although anyone can send prayers or energy long distance to someone, it may not have the same effect as a trained energy worker, but anything you send to another person with love and an open heart will be received.

There are many theories about how we can receive energy from another person. The field of Quantum Physics provides scientific evidence how this happens, but is beyond the scope of this article to explain in a simple, meaningful way for the average reader. If I could break it down to a single sentence I would say that it’s possible to send energy over a distance or remotely because at a deeper level of reality all things in the universe are infinitely interconnected.

The scientists of today are now beginning to recognize what the mystics from many traditions have been saying for centuries, “We are all connected. We are not separate.” It is the connection that allows remote healing energy to be transferred over long distances. I believe there is no time and space when it comes to sending positive energy. Both the sender and the receiver benefit when the energy is sent with unconditional love.

If you consider that thought is just energy as well as emotions and feelings, imbalances in the energy body can create physical problems or an illness. If the practitioner can help the client to resolve their issue which has created the illness, and their energy is balanced and restored, the illness often disappears or improves. Healing energy can be sent for any condition, whether it’s physical, mental, emotional or spiritual. Improvement can be instantaneous or improve over time. How the recipient responds can vary. They may feel warm, cold, feel sensations in their body or just feel more calm and relaxed. It’s common that they feel nothing, but that doesn’t mean nothing is happening. They are just not aware of it. Improvement may come over days or even weeks, depending on how fast the individual can integrate what happened during the energy session.

The most common way that practitioners work with clients at a distance is over the phone or the internet. However, healers are often asked to work with a family member and given the information about what that person’s problem is. The practitioner then addresses the issue remotely, without ever seeing or talking to the individual they are working on. This method is just as effective as talking with someone on the phone or in person.

In conclusion, long distance or remote healing is simply directing a specific energy to someone who is not in the same location as you are. Whether it’s through prayer or sent by a trained energy worker it basically works the same way, as I’ve explained, “We’re all connected.” How an energy worker directs energy to their clients depends on the particular technique they were trained in. Regardless of the technique, they are still sending healing energy for the benefit of the client they are working on. Just about any type of condition responds, creating balance, self-empowerment, and peace of mind.

If you are interested, there are dozens of books about the effects of distance healing, which will give you a fuller explanation about the principles of Quantum Physics and other theories on the subject of how energy is transmitted, but the only way to really know how it works is to experience it yourself.

In general, most people don’t realize the power of color, and how it can help us to heal and empower ourselves. Think about when you eat certain foods or take a vitamin. Do you really know how it affects your whole system-your body, mind, your spirit? Probably not. To understand how color impacts us individually, you have to educate yourself and study its effects.

To learn how color affects you, try bringing in a color’s power. For example, you can do this by eating foods of a specific color or wearing a particular color. Take note of which senses stimulate you most, and how long you need to use a color to notice its effect. Color can have various effects on both our mood and physical body.

It is unfortunate that the majority of the medical community has viewed the use of the visible light spectrum as of little consequence for healing, while ultraviolet light has been used to kill bacteria and healing T-cell leukemia for many years. Hopefully this will change in the future, since the use of color for healing goes back over 5,000 years. The ancient Egyptians, Chinese, Native Americans, Aborigines, Tibetans and now present-day practitioners and healers have all used color to help balance and harmonize people. Color therapy is the use of color to treat physical, emotional, mental and spiritual imbalances. The effects of color therapy are non-invasive and can occur at a deep cellular level.

We can absorb color in many simple ways. One way is through food or drinks. You can also visualize or breathe in a color. There are any number of ways to work with color for empowering yourself with the energy you need. We know today that gemstones radiate energy. In ancient times, ornaments were worn for a specific purpose and designed with that in mind. Some of the favored colors were red, blue, yellow, green and white.

Let’s just take one color and show how it impacts you. If you want to kick start your day try using the color red. Put on some red underwear, socks or a red shirt. Red can help you express a lot of energy, confidence and vitality. Red gives you power to create, and strengthens your physical body. If you are shy, try working with red if you wish to be more outgoing. Depending on the color we wear, we affect our self and others energetically.

Continuing with the red theme, after you’ve dressed in something red, start out with a red drink like tomato or cranberry juice. Sprinkle some cinnamon, which is red energy on your cereal. If you have a red gemstone, hold it while you meditate, wear it or put it in a pocket. Whether you work at home or an office, you can put something red on your desk. If you have a few moments, look at the red object and imagine breathing in that invigorating red energy as it fills your whole body. Visualize this red energy connecting with your first chakra which is red, as it feeds you vitality and strength to accomplish your goals for the day. You can also say an affirmation as you breathe in red, such as “I am filling my body, mind and Spirit with passion and vitality.” Additionally, some people like to use essential oils in a diffuser, bath or diluted on the skin. For red energy you can use Sandalwood or Ylang Ylang.

However you use red throughout the day, be aware that nighttime should bring a return to peaceful, quiet colors such as greens or blues. Too much red energy at night, such as energizing drumming music or wearing a red nightgown can affect your sleep and your energy level the next day.

As an introduction to color therapy I have given you one color and a way to use it, but there is a whole spectrum of colors you can use for your own personal needs or healing. There’s a multitude of ways to experience color, whether it’s wearing a specific color, or experiencing it through your sense of smell or taste. You can be as creative as you like. The main thing is, you have the power to change your energy with the use of color. So if this article stimulated your interest, there are many good books on the subject you can explore. Just remember that when you bring in the power of a particular color you have a choice of how you want to use it! So use it to have an enlivening, fun filled day while you empower yourself in the process.

The idea of chakras is taken from an ancient system of yoga. The word chakra is derived from Sanskrit and literally means “wheel” or “plate”, but it generally implies an energy wheel. The ancient Indian mystics viewed the chakra centers of the body as whirling, wheel-like vortices of energy. This article will give you a synopsis of the chakras and their function in the human body. Once you understand how each individual chakra affects your physical functioning, you can better determine which ones may be blocked or congested, then work on balancing that chakra.

There are seven main chakras which are located within the physical body from the base of the spine to the top of the head, aligned vertically up and down the spine. They are tied to the nervous system along the spine, endocrine system and various glands. The chakras are also linked to various bodily functions such as breathing and digestion.

The seven major chakras basically represent the four elements — earth, water, fire, and air — as well as sound, light and thought. Each chakra is represented by one of the seven colors of the rainbow — red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. These centers are also associated with the different organs and glands in the body. Following is a breakdown of the different chakras — their color, location and physical function in our body.

First Chakra — Red: The first chakra is the Red Root Center. It is located at the base of the spine and is connected to our physical body and action. The Root Chakra governs the reproductive system, vagina, prostate, adrenal glands, spinal column, tailbone, teeth, bones, legs and feet.

Second Chakra — Orange: The second chakra is called the Spleen Chakra and is orange. The Spleen Chakra is located at the pubic area and governs the spleen, ovaries, testes, uterus, kidneys and urinary organs.

Third Chakra — Yellow: The third or Solar Plexus Chakra is yellow and it is connected to our mental and thinking self. There are two Solar Plexus Chakras, one in front and the other in back and they physically govern the stomach, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, intestines, sympathetic nervous system, blood sugar and digestive system.

Fourth Chakra — Green: The Heart Chakra is the fourth and is green in color. Again there are two chakras, one located in front of the physical heart at the center of the chest and the other at the back. When we refer to the Heart Chakra it means both the front and back chakras. Physically, the Heart Chakra governs the heart, thymus gland, lungs, bronchia, lymph system, secondary circulatory system, immune system, arms and hands.

Fifth Chakra — Blue: The fifth chakra is the Throat Chakra and is blue. This chakra physically governs the thyroid, parathyroid, hypothalamus, throat, neck, jaw and mouth.

Sixth — Indigo: Located at the area between the eyebrows, the Brow is the sixth chakra and its color is indigo. It is also called the third eye, since it is connected to our universal seeing self. This chakra physically governs the pituitary gland, cerebellum (lower brain), eyes, nose, ears and nervous system.

Seventh Chakra — Violet: The seventh chakra is the Crown and is violet in color. This chakra is located at the crown of the head. The Crown Chakra physically governs the pineal gland, cerebral cortex (upper brain), central nervous system and hair.

As you can see, each chakra has a different task in regards to physical functioning. In addition, each chakra affects your personality as well. When the chakras are clear and balanced both your physical, emotional and spiritual bodies will benefit. Chakra clearing can be a wonderful tool for obtaining better health and a sense of well-being.

Energy medicine falls within the domain of “complementary and alternative medicine.” It is considered to be a complement to medical care as well as a complete system for self-care. Energy healing not only addresses physical illness, but emotional or mental disorders as well.

The U.S. National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine divides energy healing approaches into two general categories. The first type is “Veritable Energy Medicine” which includes light and magnet therapy, collectively referred to as electromagnetic therapy. These therapies rely on known forms of energy. The second type is “Putative Energy Medicine,” regarded as theorized forms of energy, unconfirmed by scientific investigation. Use of the term “energy medicine” has been in use since the 1980s with the founding of the non-profit International Society for the Study of Subtle Energies and Energy Medicine.

Putative energy remedies that utilize techniques such as acupuncture, kinesiology, Therapeutic Touch, yoga, qi gong or Reiki help the individual restore harmony and balance to their mind and body. There are many other effective techniques, less well known, such as Matrix Energetics, The EMF Balancing Technique and The Yuen Method. Along with intercessory prayer, distance healing can also be included. Anyone who has received this type of treatment, and felt better, would probably not care if results had been scientifically proven.

Basically, the goal of any form of energy healing technique is to heal the mind, body or Spirit by activating the individuals own natural healing energies. The physical body can be restored to health in this way by releasing or balancing the energies that are disturbed or weak in some way.

Energy techniques such as I’ve mentioned above, can treat illness and relieve pain, release stress, and basically improve all levels of functioning in the mind and physical body. There seems to be unlimited possibility for transformation when utilizing energy remedies, both as an adjunct to allopathic medicine or on its own.

Approaches to energy medicine vary widely in origin, approach and philosophy. The therapies which rely on known forms of energy such as electromagnetism are termed “veritable” energy medicine. Unfortunately, there are devices on the market making claims for healing with energy that have proven to be fraudulent. Some of these devices have been removed with action from law enforcement. A safer approach to self-care and self-healing would be with therapies considered to be “putative” energy medicine such as Therapeutic Touch or The Yuen Method.

There are many laypersons without any prior knowledge of working with energy engaged in learning these energetic techniques to help themselves and their families. Not everyone wants to be a practitioner, but these simple techniques can help the individual heal and balance themselves for improved health and vitality. To achieve and maintain a greater sense of well-being is a great gift and the goal of energy medicine.

It doesn’t matter what type of healing we’re referring to, whether it is chakra healing, aura healing or any other form of alternative healing currently being practiced, this is what I believe happens when a healing takes place.

Healing occurs on many levels — physical, mental, emotional, psychological, psychic and spiritual. When a practitioner works with a client, in most cases, energy shifts occur which can be recognized by the practitioner and the person they’re working on. When you have a massage and the tense muscles are released, you immediately recognize that you feel better and are less tense. It’s the same with energy work. The person worked on may feel less or no pain and more relaxed. They really don’t understand what happened, since they didn’t feel anything while being worked on. However, there are individuals who do feel energy move and the shifts that are going on.

When the client experiences a noticeable sensation or feeling in their body during the session, it is much easier for their conscious mind to accept that something is happening. However, everyone experiences energy work differently. As an energy worker I can use the same technique on three different individuals and each will have completely different reactions to what has been done. Even after a short period of time, I frequently hear how relaxed they feel, often going to sleep right on the table. When the session is complete, I give them water and let them know the healing process might continue and they should rest.

I also warn them that they should not get more healing work done on the same day. Too much of a good thing can sometimes make you worse, since not everyone can handle letting go of so much energy at once. Sometimes when you help release an energy blockage, it begins a slow process of healing which can continue over a period of days, weeks or, so I’ve heard, even years. These shifts can be very subtle and may go unnoticed for a while. After a time, the client may realize they’re not thinking or feeling the same way as before. Perhaps a painful situation no longer bothers them. I make them aware that their healing process may go on long after the session is over.

I like Michael Bradford’s description of healing. He likens healing to baking, in that baking depends on certain ingredients, the heat of the oven and the cooking time. Likewise, healing involves a person’s issues (the ingredients), the amount of healing energy required (the heat), and the time needed for the healing energy to release the blockage (time). You can relate some of the main ingredients to the physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual challenges a person is dealing with. Some of the other ingredients Bradford describes are the readiness and willingness of the person to heal. (Bradford, 1996)

I think what he is saying has a lot of validity and it has been my experience that this comparison holds true. However, since I have been working with Chinese Energetic Healing and Quantum Physics, the time needed for healing has changed drastically. In years past, it may have taken several sessions to get the same results I now get in one session, perhaps not for all issues, but certainly for a number of physical and emotional problems. Sometimes, we have to peel off outer layers to reach a complete healing. It is truly up to the individual we’re working on.
