The focus of this article will be on what aspect of your personality the different chakras relate to and two easy techniques to clear and balance them. Its important that the energy centers are clear and aligned, since that allows the energy to flow freely up and down the spine and throughout the nervous system. The result is often a feeling of peace and a sense of well-being because the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies are directly related to the chakra system. Tension, negative emotions and other unbalanced energies can be released from the chakras, which can help the person as a whole, since there is a connection between all the bodies. Because the chakras are all connected, when one area is worked with the entire chakra system is affected.

Qualities of the Chakras

First Chakra-Red: Some of its qualities are motivation, passion, strength and grounding. Red helps to give us vitality, courage, inner strength and self-confidence, and encourages us to achieve our goals. It gives us the power and strength to pursue our dreams.

Second Chakra-Orange: It is connected to our emotional and feeling self, and some of its qualities are joy, happiness and being sociable.

Third Chakra-Yellow: This is our ego center and some of its qualities are optimism, intelligence and being mentally creative. The heart is greatly affected by this chakra.

Fourth Chakra-Green: The Solar Plexus Chakra is an energy clearing house center. It is believed that a large portion of energy from the lower chakras pass through this front chakra before reaching the higher chakras and vice versa. The whole body can be strengthened by energizing this chakra. This chakra is connected to our loving self. Some of its qualities are harmony, kindness, sensitivity, emotional balancing, unconditional love, understanding and growth.

Fifth Chakra-Blue: The Throat Chakra is connected to our expressive self. Some of its qualities are honesty, politeness, creative self-expression and will. It also helps with detailed planning and organizing.

Sixth Chakra-Indigo: This chakra is also called the master chakra because it directs and controls the other chakras and their corresponding endocrine glands. It is also called the third eye, since it’s connected to our universal seeing self. Some of the qualities are wisdom, truth seeking and intuition.

Seventh Chakra-Violet: This chakra is connected to our knowing and spiritual self. Some of the qualities are inspiration, charisma, ability to see the beauty in life, and it helps to purify thoughts and feelings. It increases our artistic and creative abilities as well.

There are many techniques for clearing, balancing and energizing the chakras, but I’ll give you a couple of simple ones that anyone can do.

First Technique: Shake your hands to clear old energy, then, rub your hands briskly together. This activates the minor chakras in your hands and gets the energy moving. They may feel warm. Next, put both hands over the chakra you want to work with. Imagine Universal healing energy coming into your hands as you give the intent to clear, balance and energize the chakra you have your hands on. You may feel heat going into that area as this happens. Continue for a couple of minutes or until you feel it is done. Shake off the energy when you’re through. Repeat the procedure for the next chakra.

Second Technique: This one might be easier if you lie down. Shake your hands to clear the energy, then, rub them briskly together. Next, open both hands, palms down, with one on top of the other. Place both hands over the chakra you are working with and begin circling counterclockwise about 3 to 4 inches above the chakra. Make slow counterclockwise circles over the chakra for approximately one to two minutes or until you feel it is complete.

Next shake your hands to clear the energy and circle clockwise for half as long as the counterclockwise direction. The clockwise direction soothes and stabilizes the cleared chakra. Repeat the same process for each chakra that you are clearing. For a man, clear the crown chakra clockwise to clear and then counterclockwise to sooth. All the other chakras are the same as described above.

You can use these techniques daily or whenever you feel the need. Begin with an area where you are feeling discomfort. Each chakra has its own personality traits as described above. Look at the specific areas that are causing you discomfort, such as the heart chakra. This process may bring up toxic or blocked energies which will then be able to move out of your body. Since we express ourselves through these energy centers, once cleared of tension and negative emotions, we can move into a more balanced state of well-being. Remember that the chakras are all connected, so clearing one will impact the others as well. Clearing the chakras will boost your entire energy system.

The idea of chakras is taken from an ancient system of yoga. The word chakra is derived from Sanskrit and literally means “wheel” or “plate”, but it generally implies an energy wheel. The ancient Indian mystics viewed the chakra centers of the body as whirling, wheel-like vortices of energy. This article will give you a synopsis of the chakras and their function in the human body. Once you understand how each individual chakra affects your physical functioning, you can better determine which ones may be blocked or congested, then work on balancing that chakra.

There are seven main chakras which are located within the physical body from the base of the spine to the top of the head, aligned vertically up and down the spine. They are tied to the nervous system along the spine, endocrine system and various glands. The chakras are also linked to various bodily functions such as breathing and digestion.

The seven major chakras basically represent the four elements — earth, water, fire, and air — as well as sound, light and thought. Each chakra is represented by one of the seven colors of the rainbow — red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. These centers are also associated with the different organs and glands in the body. Following is a breakdown of the different chakras — their color, location and physical function in our body.

First Chakra — Red: The first chakra is the Red Root Center. It is located at the base of the spine and is connected to our physical body and action. The Root Chakra governs the reproductive system, vagina, prostate, adrenal glands, spinal column, tailbone, teeth, bones, legs and feet.

Second Chakra — Orange: The second chakra is called the Spleen Chakra and is orange. The Spleen Chakra is located at the pubic area and governs the spleen, ovaries, testes, uterus, kidneys and urinary organs.

Third Chakra — Yellow: The third or Solar Plexus Chakra is yellow and it is connected to our mental and thinking self. There are two Solar Plexus Chakras, one in front and the other in back and they physically govern the stomach, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, intestines, sympathetic nervous system, blood sugar and digestive system.

Fourth Chakra — Green: The Heart Chakra is the fourth and is green in color. Again there are two chakras, one located in front of the physical heart at the center of the chest and the other at the back. When we refer to the Heart Chakra it means both the front and back chakras. Physically, the Heart Chakra governs the heart, thymus gland, lungs, bronchia, lymph system, secondary circulatory system, immune system, arms and hands.

Fifth Chakra — Blue: The fifth chakra is the Throat Chakra and is blue. This chakra physically governs the thyroid, parathyroid, hypothalamus, throat, neck, jaw and mouth.

Sixth — Indigo: Located at the area between the eyebrows, the Brow is the sixth chakra and its color is indigo. It is also called the third eye, since it is connected to our universal seeing self. This chakra physically governs the pituitary gland, cerebellum (lower brain), eyes, nose, ears and nervous system.

Seventh Chakra — Violet: The seventh chakra is the Crown and is violet in color. This chakra is located at the crown of the head. The Crown Chakra physically governs the pineal gland, cerebral cortex (upper brain), central nervous system and hair.

As you can see, each chakra has a different task in regards to physical functioning. In addition, each chakra affects your personality as well. When the chakras are clear and balanced both your physical, emotional and spiritual bodies will benefit. Chakra clearing can be a wonderful tool for obtaining better health and a sense of well-being.

It doesn’t matter what type of healing we’re referring to, whether it is chakra healing, aura healing or any other form of alternative healing currently being practiced, this is what I believe happens when a healing takes place.

Healing occurs on many levels — physical, mental, emotional, psychological, psychic and spiritual. When a practitioner works with a client, in most cases, energy shifts occur which can be recognized by the practitioner and the person they’re working on. When you have a massage and the tense muscles are released, you immediately recognize that you feel better and are less tense. It’s the same with energy work. The person worked on may feel less or no pain and more relaxed. They really don’t understand what happened, since they didn’t feel anything while being worked on. However, there are individuals who do feel energy move and the shifts that are going on.

When the client experiences a noticeable sensation or feeling in their body during the session, it is much easier for their conscious mind to accept that something is happening. However, everyone experiences energy work differently. As an energy worker I can use the same technique on three different individuals and each will have completely different reactions to what has been done. Even after a short period of time, I frequently hear how relaxed they feel, often going to sleep right on the table. When the session is complete, I give them water and let them know the healing process might continue and they should rest.

I also warn them that they should not get more healing work done on the same day. Too much of a good thing can sometimes make you worse, since not everyone can handle letting go of so much energy at once. Sometimes when you help release an energy blockage, it begins a slow process of healing which can continue over a period of days, weeks or, so I’ve heard, even years. These shifts can be very subtle and may go unnoticed for a while. After a time, the client may realize they’re not thinking or feeling the same way as before. Perhaps a painful situation no longer bothers them. I make them aware that their healing process may go on long after the session is over.

I like Michael Bradford’s description of healing. He likens healing to baking, in that baking depends on certain ingredients, the heat of the oven and the cooking time. Likewise, healing involves a person’s issues (the ingredients), the amount of healing energy required (the heat), and the time needed for the healing energy to release the blockage (time). You can relate some of the main ingredients to the physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual challenges a person is dealing with. Some of the other ingredients Bradford describes are the readiness and willingness of the person to heal. (Bradford, 1996)

I think what he is saying has a lot of validity and it has been my experience that this comparison holds true. However, since I have been working with Chinese Energetic Healing and Quantum Physics, the time needed for healing has changed drastically. In years past, it may have taken several sessions to get the same results I now get in one session, perhaps not for all issues, but certainly for a number of physical and emotional problems. Sometimes, we have to peel off outer layers to reach a complete healing. It is truly up to the individual we’re working on.
